1986, as 'Centre for Technical and Professional Problems in Archives'. Changed name to International Institute for Archival Science Maribor -- Mednarodni Institut Arhivskih Znanosti Maribor, 1992. Subsequently changed title to International Institute for Archival Science, University of Maribor -- Mednarodni Institut Arhivskih Znanosti, Univerze v Maribor (MIAZ). Became part of the University of Maribor (Slovenia), 2000. When headquarters were transferred to the State Archive of Trieste (Italy), adopted current title. Previously also referred to in Italian as Istituto Internazionale per le Scienza Archivistica.
Deal with technical and professional problems linked to archival matters, taking in special consideration the Balkan-Danube area; improve services and take advantage of contributions from more advanced countries in the field of archival science.
