1 Jul 1997, New York NY (USA), by resolution 1118 (1997) of E-XE3376 - United Nations Security Council (UNSC), as part of United Nations Peace-keeping Operations, within F-XF1000 - United Nations System, in the framework of A-XA3375 - United Nations (UN). Successor to U-XF0067 - United Nations Angola Verification Mission (UNAVEM). Initial mandate 4 months; completion subsequently expected 1 Feb 1998; operation actually completed 26 Feb 1999.
Aims
Assist Angolan parties in consolidating peace and national reconciliation; enhance confidence-building; create an environment conducive to long-term stability, democratic development and rehabilitation of the country.
