History

Need to establish MAWAC identified, 2015, with a declaration signed by participants of the 1st International Conference on "Megacities Water and Global Change" (Eaumega), during 21st Conference of Parties on Climate Change, Dec 2015, Paris (France). Founders: UNESCO F-XE0426 - International Hydrological Programme (IHP), ARCEAU-Idf, SIAAP and B-XF2316 - Local Governments for Sustainability (ICLEI). Establishment period 2016-2018. Previously also referred to as Megacities Alliance for Water under Climate Change (MAWac). Will be formally founded Dec 2020, at 2nd Conference.

Aims

Provide a platform for Megacities to share experiences and challenges, propose solutions; obtain access to technical and financial support for programmes and projects enabling them to successfully overcome the challenges of climate change.
