History
28 Feb 1964, on entry into force of a convention, following signature of a convention signed 14 Jun 1962, Paris (France), which also provided for the setting up of H-XM7301 - European Space Research Organization (ESRO), and which came into force on 20 Mar 1964. Also referred to as Centre européen pour la mise au point et la construction des lanceurs d'engins spatiaux (CECLES). Established as a result of a 'European Preparatory Commission for Space Research -- Commission préparatoire européenne pour la recherche spatiale (COPERS)', which had been set up at an intergovernmental conference, 1 Dec 1960, Meyrin (Switzerland). Convention terminated and both organizations ceased to exist on 31 May 1975, when D-XD0868 - European Space Agency (ESA) came into operation.
