20 Mar 1964, on entry into force of a convention, following signature of a convention signed 14 Jun 1962, Paris (France), which also provided for the setting up of H-XM7302 - European Space Vehicle Launcher Development Organization (ELDO), and which came into force on the same date. Also referred to as Centre européen de recherches spatiales (CERS). Established as a result of a 'European Preparatory Commission for Space Research -- Commission préparatoire européenne pour la recherche spatiale (COPERS)', which had been set up at an intergovernmental conference, 1 Dec 1960, Meyrin (Switzerland). Convention terminated and both organizations ceased to exist on 31 May 1975, when D-XD0868 - European Space Agency (ESA) came into operation.
