History
Founded 27 Jul 1948, Samedan (Switzerland), as successor to H-XH1600 - Internationale Studienkommission für Motorlosen Flug (ISTUS), set up 8-10 Mar 1930, Darmstadt (Germany). Sporting activities of ISTUS were at that time taken over by B-XB1140 - Fédération aéronautique internationale (FAI). Constitution adopted 3 Aug 1954, Buxton (UK); amended 12 Jun 1965, South Cerney (UK); 29 Jul 1978, Chateauroux (France); 6 Jun 1981, Paderborn (Germany FR); 2 Jul 2015, Braunschweig (Germany).
Aims
Encourage and coordinate internationally the science and technology of soaring and development and use of the sailplane in pure and applied research; improve training methods, design, construction and operation of sailplanes and accessories with a view to increasing proficiency, performance, flying qualities, safety and comfort for the benefit of soaring and aviation in general.
