History
Founded 3 Dec 1958, Geneva (Switzerland), following removal from Bern (Switzerland) to Geneva of the then 'United International Bureaux for the Protection of Intellectual Property -- Bureaux internationaux réunis pour la protection de la propriété intellectuelle (BIRPI)', currently B-XB3635 - World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), when it was intended to integrate the organization into the United Nations "common system". Current statutes adopted, 23 May 2006.
Aims
Safeguard collective and individual rights and interests of all staff, whether in service or retired; maintain and enhance unity within the staff as a body of international civil servants; ensure staff working conditions are satisfactory and remain in conformity with the principles set forth in Staff Regulations and Staff Rules of WIPO and any other applicable provisions; improve the professional condition of members and afford assistance to those in difficulty; organize cultural, recreational and sporting activities for the staff.
