As an establishment for higher education, promote fundamental and applied research through a common seismological network between Ecuador and Colombia; help reduce disasters due to natural hazards, mainly in Western Columbia; foster and implement an interdisciplinary scientific approach to natural hazards; develop human resources whose scientific and technical contributions will increase perception of natural hazards and vulnerability and the modern resources to control their adverse effects; contribute to the improvement of perception and capacities of authorities and prevention organisms related to natural hazards and their interaction with the development process.
