3 Nov 1966, Seoul (Korea Rep), as World Anti-Communist League (WACL), at 12th Conference of the then 'Asian Peoples Anti-Communist League', currently F-XF1841 - Asian-Pacific League for Freedom and Democracy (APLFD). Present name adopted at WACL Annual Conference, 23 Jul 1990, Brussels (Belgium). Charter adopted 8 Nov 1966, Seoul; revised at: 17 Sep 1970, Kyoto (Japan); 25 Apr 1975, Rio de Janeiro (Brazil); 2 Aug 1981, Taipei (Taiwan); 17 Aug 1987, Taipei; 1991, San José (Costa Rica).

Aims

Disseminate worldwide the ideals of freedom and democracy; encourage and support their universal application; promote respect for and observance of human rights and fundamental freedoms for all peoples; act as agent and coordinating centre for international cooperation in economic development and educational and cultural exchange aimed at contributing to social progress and better living standards; combine efforts against aggression, imperialism, totalitarianism and authoritarianism of whatever form and pretension, whenever and wherever any of such forces appears.
