Founded 18 Nov 1987, Thailand, at inaugural meeting, by open universities in the Asian region. Statutes amended: 21 Sep 1992, Seoul (Korea Rep); Feb 1995, Delhi (India); 14 Oct 1999, Beijing (China); Jan 2015, Hong Kong.
Strive to widen educational opportunities available to all people in Asia; improve the quality of the institutions in terms of their educational management, teaching and research; promote education by distance teaching systems, as well as professional and ethical standards; develop potentialities of open and distance education; cooperate with official bodies and others directly or indirectly interested in open education; facilitate cooperation with other similar regional and international bodies.
