The UIA is a leading provider of information about international non-profit organizations. The aim of the Open Yearbook is to promote the activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).

History

1960, by Dr Jacques Fisher and Sir Zefrula Khan. No activity reported since 1990.

Aims

Encourage tolerance and understanding between communities and individuals of different religious traditions; promote inter-religious dialogue and intercultural education and deepen sensitivity as a means of preventing, or overcoming, hatred and discrimination; identify, emphasize and build on the common ethical heritage underlying many religions, without infringing upon their individual identities; encourage reflection on the role and influence of religion in society, and cooperation with regard to major issues of common concern, such as human rights, justice and peace; go beyond merely intellectual debate and bring the results of dialogue - new attitudes, respect and understanding - from the 'specialist' to the ordinary person.

Activities

Organizes, promotes and participates in meetings, conferences, round tables and forums. Information programme. Special attention focused on educational work. Preparing to help create an Interfaith Centre in Jerusalem (Israel); proposes establishment of a World Interfaith Centre at Assisi (Italy). Sponsors an Interfaith Award every 2 years.
