1965

History

1965, under the name European Contact Group for Church and Society, as the regional group for Western Europe of B-XB3501 - World Council of Churches (WCC), within Unit II as part of the network of Urban Rural Mission. Previously referred to as European Contact Group on Urban Industrial Mission (ECG) -- Communauté européenne de travail Eglise et société industrielle -- Europäische Arbeitsgemeinschaft Kirche und Arbeitswelt.

Aims

Reflect on the responses of the Churches to urban industrial society; develop Urban Industrial and Rural Mission (UIRM) work by the exchange of ideas, experience and through training staff members; enable UIRM groups to meet around areas of common interest and concern; organize specific programmes of bi- and multi-lateral exchanges of workers, activists and community leaders; support all those who struggle for a more just society, especially the marginalized; develop new UIRM initiatives in Central and Eastern Europe.
