1924, as (US) National Battery Manufacturers Association. Name changed, 1940, to Association of American Battery Manufacturers. Present name adopted in 1970.

Promote the interests of an international lead battery industry.

Provides members with up-to-date information on marketing and technical developments, plus regulatory and legislative initiatives that could affect the worldwide industry; provides governmental, legislative liaison service for the industry; maintains an statistical programme; compiles raw data on battery production shipments (original and replacement) at manufacturer and inventory level; provides members with annual distribution reports; promotes development and implementation of workable environmental, health and safety standards for the industry; focuses attention on increasing the overall lead battery recycling rate; advances model battery recycling legislation at state and federal level.
