Founded 4 Oct 1963, Brussels (Belgium), as Association of National Trade Groups Wood and Derived Products in Countries of the EEC -- Association des groupements du négoce intérieur du bois et des produits dérivés dans les pays de la CEE (AGNIB) -- Vereinigung der Verbände des Binnenhandels mit Holz und Holzergänzenden Werkstoffen in den Ländern der EWG -- Associazione dei Gruppi del Commercio Interno del Legno e dei Prodotti Derivati nei Paesi della CEE -- Verbond van Verenigingen van Handelaren in Hout en Houtprodukten in de Landen van de Euromarkt -- Sammenslutningen af Foreninger for den Interne Handel med Trae og Deraf Afledte Produkter i EØF Landene. Most recent name adopted Oct 1990. As of Jan 2014, ceased to exist when merged with D-XJ1060 - European Timber Trade Federation (ETTF).

Aims

Work for a free European timber market and the implementation of monetary union; represent the interests of the European timber trade with the European Commission; encourage cooperation and exchange of information among national associations as a means of working towards a European forestry and timber industry policy, taking into account the companies and people employed in these areas; promote environmentally friendly methods of increased tree planting; encourage increased and sustainable use of wood; within the framework of the European Parliament's strategy for the forestry sector; encourage consumers to respect ecological standards in forests by buying certified wood; promote the creation of a European sustainable forestry mark which leaves open the question of marks of origin and certification.
