History

Nov 1980, Quito (Ecuador), as Sociedade de Especialistas Latinoamericanos en Percepción Remota, at first meeting of Latin American specialists in remote sensing. Previously referred to as Sociedad Latinoamericana de Percepción Remota y Sistemas Especiales. Also referred to as Sociedad Latinoamerican de Percepción Remota y Sistemas de Información Espacial.

Aims

Promote cooperation among member countries in order to improve their already existing technical-scientific capacity; stimulate international, national and regional integration of remote sensing specialists by linking countries with similar problems.

Activities

Organizes 'Latin American Symposium in Remote Sensing' (every 2 years) and Plenary Meetings. Promotes training courses (in cooperation with other organizations). Through national chapters supports development of project research in conjunction with research institutes, universities and other interested organizations.
