The UIA is a leading provider of information about international non-profit organizations. The aim of the Open Yearbook is to promote the activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).

History

1991, Paris (France). Currently forms part of Université virtuelle francophone (UVF). Originally set up as Université audiovisuelle francophone within the framework of Agence universitaire de La Francophonie (AUF) and on recommendations of Conférence au sommet des chefs d'Etat et de gouvernement des pays ayant le français en partage (Sommet de la Francophonie), when implemented through cooperation between AUF and francophone universities and organizations. Currently also referred to as Université par satellite. Ceased to exist, prior to 2008.

Aims

Provide tertiary education in the French language through video transmission of educational programmes; integrate new information and communication technology, particularly email techniques, into distance education, so as to improve interaction between students and educators and develop auto-evaluation.

Activities

Students from Sub-Saharan Africa, Southeast Asia, the Caribbean, Central and Eastern Europe and Mashreq, Maghreb and Indian Ocean countries receive free of charge all educational materials needed for distance education, together with help in acquiring documentation (books and periodicals) and privileged access to Réseau international des centres SYFED-REFER.
