History
Circa 1240, Alexandria (Egypt), by Abú al-Hasan 'Ali ibn 'Abd Allah al-Shadhili (died c 1250). Title sometimes rendered as Shadhiliyyah. The order descended from R-XR0355 - Madaniya. It eventually split into numerous branches, including: Afifiya, Arúsiya, Bakriya, Djawhariya, Djazúliya, Ghaziya, Habibiya, Handúshiya, Hansaliya, Hashimiya, Karzaziya, Kasimiya, Kawukdjiya, Makkiya, Mashishiya, R-XR8740 - Nasiriya, Sammaniya, Shabbiya, Shaikhiya, Suhailiya, Wafa'iya, Yúsufiya and its offshoot Rashidiya, Zarrúkiya and Ziyaniya. R-XR8610 - Darkawa, founded circa 1800, Morocco, is an offshoot.
Aims
Monasticism and mendicancy discouraged. An Islamic Sufi theological school and order observing five principles: fear God; observe the Sunna strictly; disdain mankind in both prosperity and adversity (although lucrative professions are not forbidden); be resigned to the will of God; turn to God at all times.
