Aug 1995, within the ambit of the Trade, Industry, Finance and Investment Directorate of F-XF2522 - Southern African Development Community (SADC). Inaugural meeting: 24 Nov 1995. Terms of reference approved, Jul 1996, by Committee of Ministers of Finance.


Contribute to the process of regional economic cooperation and integration through closer cooperation among central banks of the Community in the areas of: monetary policy; monetary policy instruments; bank supervision; money and capital markets; international financial relations; payment, clearing and settlement systems; training; money laundering. Assist central bank governors and officials in gaining better insight into each others' economies and monetary policies.

Committee of Governors (meets twice a year) chaired by the Governor of the South African Reserve Bank, assisted by the Secretariat of the Committee of Central Bank Governors (CCBG). Committee of Officials (meeting 2 days prior to meetings of Governors) comprises senior officials of member central banks, chaired by the Head of the CCBG Secretariat; it prepares the meeting of Governors. Secretariat in International Economic Relations and Policy Department, South African Reserve Bank, assisted by Working Group comprising representatives of 3 other central banks on a rotational basis.
