Permanent committee set up 1967. Name changed, 1989, to European Mechanics Council -- Conseil européen de mécanique. New statutes and present name adopted, 3 Apr 1993.
Promote development of mechanics as a branch of science and engineering, from fundamental research on behaviour of fluids and solids to applied research in engineering.
