1984, by a group of developing countries in response to problems arising from administration of the T-XT7326 - Arrangement Regarding International Trade in Textiles (Multifibre agreement) (1974-1994) governing international trade in textiles under the auspices of H-XF0985 - General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT). Also referred to in French as Bureau international des textiles et de l'habillement.
Achieve the elimination of discriminatory restrictions directed against members' exports of textiles and clothing in world markets, and the full application of rules and principles enunciated in the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade of the WTO to world trade in textiles and clothing products.
