The UIA is a leading provider of information about international non-profit organizations. The aim of the Open Yearbook is to promote the activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).

History

Apr 1981, Accra (Ghana), at Symposium on the State of Biology in Africa, as a regional network of International Biosciences Networks (IBN). Activities commenced Nov 1983, Dakar (Senegal). Its second phase of operations began in 1987.

Aims

Support bioscientists and strengthen existing institutions throughout the region so that they are better able to undertake their research in the basic biological sciences and in finding solutions to the problems of a biological nature confronting the region (efforts focused on the priority areas of food production and health).

Works closely with other networks: Arab Biosciences Network (AraBN); Asian Network for Biological Sciences (ANBS); Latin American Network of Biological Sciences (RELAB). Research activities; training, courses and workshops; cooperative activities.
