History

1995, in order to provide a framework for cooperative R and D to share costs, risks, and expertise leading to improved manufacturing operations, enhanced international competitiveness, and technology breakthroughs via industrially driven R and D and innovation. Phase I: 1995-2005. Phase II as from 2005.

Aims

As an industry-led research and development programme: facilitate research in advanced manufacturing through international cooperation; develop the next generation of manufacturing and processing technologies.

Activities

'Coaching Services' - Support services to SME's and MNEs for project formation offered through Manufacturing Technology Programme (MTP), launched in spring of 2010. Project facilitators (coaches) and are available in every IMS region. Coaches may also introduce existing project opportunities to potential partners, and thread running projects together in order to increase efficiency and expertise. Coaches work in partnership with IMS Regional Secretariats in identifying opportunities to provide personalized one-on-one service and activities, and to raise awareness of programmes and activities to industry, industry associations, funding agencies and research institutions. 'Workshops' - Conducts project workshops (2 a year). Workshops aim to promote formation of new projects, review ongoing research, and disseminate results of research conducted. 'Forums' - Conducts annual forum which include the above workshop objectives with a wider scope to include other research-related topics.
