The UIA is a leading provider of information about international non-profit organizations. The aim of the Open Yearbook is to promote the activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).

History

1993, as an autonomous trust, on the initiative of Latin American Association of Development Organizations (ALOP). Based in Costa Rica.

Aims

Provide technical and financial services to financial entities working with excluded social sectors in the region and which have no access to conventional financial schemes; contribute to their institutional consolidation and modernization; operate regional mechanisms that efficiently channel resources to these entities; create a flexible system of communication, exchange of experience, training, technical assistance and other ways of mobilizing institutional resources; create and generate in Latin American countries efficient and differentiated systems capable of operating in the open financial market while attending to local needs; establish strategic alliances with civil society organizations so as to exert effective influence concerning cooperation policies and mobilize resources towards Latin American NGOs.

Activities

Promotes and acts as trustee for a 'Seed Fund', FODEM, set up under a joint venture strategy, which supports setting up, consolidation and transformation of entities that finance small and micro-businesses in Latin America and the Caribbean through providing risk capital and quasi-capital loans. Owns corporation 'CORFOLADE', registered in Panama, to undertake similar operations more easily carried out by a corporate entity. Set up a trust structure for financial services in San Juan (Puerto Rico). Organizes: annual Latin American conference; technical assistance; training; institutional support.
