Foster primary prevention of cancer through recognition and elimination of environmental and occupational hazards and through the protection of individuals at risk; foster secondary prevention through improved methods for identification of susceptible individuals at high risk and for detection of tumours in the earliest stages of oncogenesis; sponsor basic research designed for cancer prevention and detection; create a forum for the exchange of information between scientists engaged in basic cancer research and those in the practice of preventive and clinical oncology.
