21 May 1863, North America, the denominational name and basic organization having been adopted between 1860 and 1863. First European Conference: 1880, Denmark.

The mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church is to proclaim to all peoples the everlasting gospel in the context of the three angels' messages of Revelation 14 6-12, leading them to accept Jesus as personal saviour and to unite with His church, and nurturing them in preparation for His soon return. Fundamental beliefs include, among others: (1) The content of the Bible is divinely inspired and constitutes the sole rule of faith and practice; (2) Jesus is the Creator God who took human form in accomplishing His ministry of reconciliation; (3) Salvation is by faith in Jesus Christ; (4) Christ's return is impending, and will be literal, personal, and premillennial; (5) The Ten Commandments summarize God's will for Christians today, including their provision of the sabbath.
