History

May 1950, Bern (Switzerland), at 2nd International Documentary and Educational Film Congress, as International Council for Educational Films -- Conseil international du film d'enseignement, continuing activities of International League for Educational Films -- Ligue internationale du film d'enseignement. Also known as International Committee for the Advancement of Audio-Visual Media in Education; Conseil international des moyens d'enseignement; Conseil international des moyens du film d'enseignement. Statutes adopted 1954; most recently amended 2000. Registered in accordance with Swiss law.

Aims

Provide a channel for exchange and evaluation of information, experience and materials in the field of educational media as they apply to pre-school, primary education, secondary education, technical, vocational, industrial and commercial training, continuing education and and distance education; foster international liaison among individuals and organizations with professional responsibility in the field of educational media; inform manufacturers and producers on needs of education; provide information and consultancy; cooperate in development and application of educational technology with other international organizations involved in research, production, distribution and use; play a leading role in identifying and exploring ongoing and future issues with respect to the role and potential of media in education.
