8 Dec 1994, in accordance with Article 7 of the Treaty establishing Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), following decision, 5 Nov 1993, Kampala (Uganda), of Heads of State and Government and plenipotentiaries of the then Preferential Trade Area for Eastern and Southern African States (PTA). Reports to COMESA Council of Ministers.
According to the Treaty: (a) be responsible for the development of programmes and action plans in the field of finance and monetary cooperation; (b) monitor and keep under constant review and ensure the proper implementation of the programmes and plans adopted pursuant to the provisions of Chapter Ten of the Treaty on Monetary and Financial Cooperation; (c) for the purposes of (a) and (b) above, request the Secretary-General to undertake specific investigations; (d) consider reports and recommendations from the Technical Committee on Finance and Monetary Affairs; (e) submit from time to time, reports and recommendations to the Council concerning the implementation of the Finance and Monetary Cooperation Programme; (f) have such other functions as conferred upon it by or under the Treaty.Available with paid subscription only.
