History

Jan 1978, New York NY (USA), as Inter-Agency Procurement Services Unit (IAPSU) -- Groupe des services d'achats interorganisations, in the framework of E-XE3382 - UNDP. Originally based in New York NY, moved, at the beginning of 1982, to Geneva (Switzerland). Relocated, Jul 1989, to Copenhagen (Denmark), when most recent name was adopted. As of 1 Jan 2008, ceased to exist. Operations of UNWebbuy and United Nations Global Marketplace (UNGM) websites and services taken over by E-XK0972 - United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS). UNDP continues to offer procurement training courses.

Aims

As a coordination office for UN procurement matters: undertake Research and Development activities to harmonize procurement procedures and practices with a view to achieving transparency, standardization, cost-effectiveness and skill development, including advisory services to the business community on how to market to the UN system. As a procurement services office: provide a wide range of procurement services, including advisory services, training and capacity building in the area of procurement, with focus on UNDP and its partners, such as programme country governments, donor governments and civil society organizations.

A UNDP office, IAPSO reports biennially to UNDP's Executive Board. UNDP reports to the United Nations General Assembly through its Economic and Social Council.
