1973, as Secrétariat européen des concessionnaires d'autoroutes à péage (SECAP) -- European Secretary for Toll Motorway Concessionaires -- Secretariato Europeo delle Concessionarie de Autostrade a Pedaggio. Previously also referred to in English as European Association of Tolled Motorway, Bridge and Tunnel Concessionaires. Present name adopted in 1993, when legally set up and statutes adopted.
Defend and develop the system of motorways and road infrastructures in Europe, applying tolls as a means to ensure financing of their construction, maintenance and operation.
