Founded

1475 Prague Czech Rep

History

1475, Prague (Czech Rep), as Unitas Fratrum - 'Unity of the Brethren' - by followers of John Hus (died 1415). Still also referred to by original title. Church renewed 13 Aug 1727, Herrnhut (Germany).

Aims

As a protestant Christian denomination, function as part of the living Church, being aware of and participating in special gifts and tasks drawn from Jesus' life on earth. Emphasize: the word of the cross as the testimony of the Lord who was crucified for us and rose again; the word of reconciliation as God making peace with His whole creation; the word of personal union with the Saviour as the vitalizing and moulding power of the believer's life; the word of Christ-like love among one another as the fellowship of members brought about by Jesus Christ, the Head of His Church.

Structure

While recognizing the priesthood of all believers, includes bishops, presbyters, deacons and acolytes.
