The UIA is a leading provider of information about international non-profit organizations. The aim of the Open Yearbook is to promote the activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).

History
Jun 1986, within the framework of F-XF2152 - European Science Foundation (ESF); approved Jun 1986; second phase 1989-1992. Came within the remit of U-XK1162 - ESF Standing Committee for the Humanities (SCH). Completed but still publishing as of 1995.
Aims
Overcome the traditional segregation of scholars doing research at the national level; focus on regions (Africa, the Americas, Asia) related to colonial history; integrate such studies; operate as a clearing-house for non-Western history; stimulate international research on a European scale.
