The UIA is a leading provider of information about international non-profit organizations. The aim of the Open Yearbook is to promote the activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).


1987; operated within the framework of Foundation for International Studies, University of Malta (FIS) as the coordination centre of the European decentralized network of the former European Coordination Centre for Research and Documentation in Social Sciences (Vienna Centre). As an international multilateral network of focal points or centres (nodes) in different parts of Europe and the Mediterranean engaged in research, documentation and training in the social sciences, offers a new model of international cooperation based on convergence of a number of autonomous, legally independent and self-financing centres. Maintains a global perspective and is particularly sensitive to contacts between Western and Eastern institutions and the Northern and Southern shores of the Mediterranean. Themes of research include: transition from a directed economy to a market economy; poverty; unemployment; status of women; the environment; ethnicity; nationalism; sustainable development; cultural tourism.
