Founded

1929

History

At the first YCS International Meeting, Fribourg (Switzerland), 1-8 Sep 1946, 8 national movements came together and decided to set up the Centre international de documentation et d'information (CIDI) -- International YCS Center of Documentation and Information in Paris (today the International Secretariat) for the service of all YCS groups throughout the world. An International Commission (currently "International Team") was mandated to work for all existing YCS mouvements in the world. Present name adopted Aug 1954, Brussels (Belgium). Current statutes approved, Aug 2007, Kampala (Uganda).

Aims

Evangelize the student milieu and promote the lay apostolate among students, at both secondary and tertiary levels; bring together students seeking community, formation and action, in the framework of the Catholic Church; promote global solidarity, freedom, justice and peace, and work with all concerned women and men for joint reflection and action leading to a more just and social order; give students resources, pedagogies, and methodologies to help them integrate their Christian faith into their lives at all levels and in their efforts to build a more just society; be a voice for its student members by representing them in regional and international forums.
