History

15 Dec 1991, Avignon (France), as a follow-up to resolution of E-XE3068 - Council of the European Union, 24 May 1988, the 'European Campuses for the Environment' experimental programme of 1990, and the European Year of the Environment. Original title: Grouping of European Campuses for the Environment -- Groupement européen des campus de l'environnement (GECE), also referred to as Réseau européen des volontaires de l'environnement. Current title adopted 1996. Also referred to in English as European Environmental Campus Group. Grouped European partners of U-XD3801 - Association pour la participation et l'action régionale (APARE) and U-XE3134 - Mediterranean Centre for the Environment. As of 2010, no longer exists.

Aims

Promote and organize international networks of environmental education; help young people become active in the environmental reconstruction of Europe and the Mediterranean; activate an international body of young volunteers to support local environment initiatives; develop active partnership between local authorities and universities; practice collaboration of fieldwork, drawing on different areas of study and offering openings for students in the professional world; give access to a transnational network capable of adding weight to local initiatives and dedicated to solidarity in international environmental action.
