18 Feb 1965, Brussels (Belgium), as International Association for the Study and Promotion of Audio-Visual and Structuro-Global Methods -- Association internationale pour la recherche et la diffusion des méthodes audio-visuelles et structuro-globales. Reoriented 1967 to be an association of researchers in all fields related with communication problems; current title adopted 21 Nov 1981, Brussels. Registered in accordance with Belgian law. Ceased to exist.
Aims
Carry out research relating to theoretical and practical aspects of communication in its widest sense; carry out interdisciplinary research on and promote audio-visual and structuro-global methods of teaching languages, phonetics, general education, programmed education, literature, mass media, psychology, semiotics.

General Assembly (annual) elects Board of Directors for 5-year term: President; Vice-Presidents (5); members (9). Administration: Secretary-General; Treasurer; Assistant Secretary-General; Editor. Essentially a network of individual "brains", the statutes do not envisage national sections although national delegates in some countries facilitate exchanges among members. Committees (4): Bilingualism; Foreign Language Teaching; Linguistic Problems of Migrant Workers; Teaching through Television.
