The UIA is a leading provider of information about international non-profit organizations. The aim of the Open Yearbook is to promote the activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).

History

1995, by United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), as a network within UNESCO Mediterranean Programme. No longer active.

Activities

Exchange of diskettes dealing with new acquisitions; pilot project concerning use and adaptation of technical facilities available through Internet; regular exchange of information for countries linked by Internet and provision of access to libraries and archives in countries not yet linked up; establishment of a worldwideweb for countries linked to Internet but not having this feature; Library of Alexandria Project (Egypt) for a library designed as a public establishment for research on civilizations and cultures of the Middle East and Mediterranean Basin, leading to coordination of a network of cooperation and exchange among libraries, archives and information centres covering UNESCO activities in the region.
