Founded

1907

History

1907, as International Congress of Butchers' Associations -- Congrès international de bouchers. Reconstituted 13 Sep 1946, Amsterdam (Netherlands). Registered in accordance with Belgian law. Current statutes adopted Jan 1991, Brussels (Belgium). Previously referred to in English as International Federation of Meat Traders' Associations and as International Butchery Organization. New name adopted 1995.

Aims

Promote knowledge and legislation on foodstuffs, with particular emphasis on meat and meat products; defend common interests of the meat trading and catering industry in the areas of vocational training, economic and social policy and industry, commerce and handicrafts policy; represent the affairs of the meat-cutting and catering industry before institutions of the European Union and other associations and organizations; monitor and analyse developments and relevant information; act as a forum for exchange of ideas and experience; promote cooperation with other European associations; promote a permanent exchange of ideas with scientists and consumers on health and nutrition at the European level.
