Replaced by E-XM2632 - European Consumer Consultative Group (ECCG), 2003.
Aims
Constitute a forum for general discussion on problems relating to consumer interests; give an opinion on Community matters affecting the protection of consumer interests; advise and guide the Commission on policies and activities affecting consumers; inform the Commission of developments in consumer policy in Member States; act as a source of information and soundboard on Community action for other national organizations.

Committee (meeting about 4 times a year, in Brussels) comprises 20 full members and 20 alternates appointed by the European Commission for a 3-year mandate, renewable (one per Member State and one representative from each European consumer organization fulfilling the criteria laid down in Article 5 of Decision 283/1999/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 25 Jan 1999). Secretariat and presidency held by the Commission.
