The UIA is a leading provider of information about international non-profit organizations. The aim of the Open Yearbook is to promote the activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).


1963, as Organization for Nordic Electrical Cooperation -- Union des pays nordiques pour la coopération dans l'industrie électrique -- Organ för Nordiskt Elsamarbete -- Organ for Nordisk Elsamarbejde -- Energiahuollon Pohjoismainen Yhteistyöelin. Subsequently changed title to Organization for Nordic Electric Power Cooperation -- Union des pays nordiques pour la coopération dans l'industrie électrique -- Organisasjon for Nordisk Elsamarbeid -- Organization for Nordisk Esamarbejde -- Energiahuollon Pohjoismainen Yhteistyöelin. Most recent bylaws approved at Annual Meeting, 30 June 2000. From 2000-2009 responsible for Nordic Transmission System (TSOs). As of 1 July 2009, merged with European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity (ENTSO-E).


Promote the development of a seamless Nordic electricity market as an integrated part of the North-West European electricity market; maintain a high level of security in the Nordic power system; act as a contact forum between the Transmission System Operators (TSOs), authorities and market players in the Nordic countries.

Provides advice and recommendations. Tasks include: system development and rules for network dimensioning; system operation, operational security, reliability of supply and exchange of information; principles of transmission pricing and pricing of ancillary services; international cooperation; maintaining and developing contacts with organizations and regulatory authorities in the power sector; preparing and disseminating neutral information. Most activities are carried out by committees and working groups of technical experts. 'Planning Committee': responsible for technical matters of a long-term nature concerning the transmission system and information exchange concerning expansion of the system. 'Operations Committee': responsible for issues concerning technical systems in the short-term and the technical framework for operations. 'Market Committee': works towards creating a borderless Nordic market for the market players and towards the rules of play in Europe being formulated in such a way so as to promote a positive market trend and efficient interplay with the Nordic market.
