The UIA is a leading provider of information about international non-profit organizations. The aim of the Open Yearbook is to promote the activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).


1986, as a Commission of International Union of Physiological Sciences (IUPS). Ceased to exist, 2002, when, together with IUPS Commission on Physiome and Computational Modelling of Physiome Systems, replaced by a Committee on the Physiome and Bioengineering.


Foster developments in quantitative and integrative biology, particularly physiology, through application of systems engineering as applied to biological systems.

Develops methods for: physiological modelling; quantitative interpretation of any sequences from varied medical imaging technologies (positron tomography, magnetic resonance, fast computer tomography, ultrasound). Topic areas cover biomechanics, systems and comparative physiology, electrophysiology, membrane and transport physiology, biochemical and biophysical network behaviour.
