Founded as European Federation of Tobacco Retail Organizations -- Fédération européenne des organisations des détaillants en tabacs (FEODT). Restructured, 1970, with adoption of current English title and with French title Confédération européenne des organisations des détaillants en tabacs. Sometimes also referred to as European Confederation of Retail Tobacconists (ECRT) -- Europäische Vereinigung der Tabakwaren-Einzelhändlersverbände. A grouping of the type F-XE0630 - European Economic Interest Grouping (EEIG) since 1999.
Promote commercial interests of tobacco retailers in Europe; cooperate closely with all organizations that can contribute positively to the benefit of these retailers and their clients; stimulate national tobacco retail trade organizations; follow developments relevant to the trade, within and outside the European Union; make proposals and recommendations at national and European level; encourage exchange of economic and technical information; support organizations of smokers' interests.
