History

Founded Apr 1915, by A Piatt Andrew as American Ambulance Field Service, later known as American Field Service (AFS). Name changed, 1978, to AFS International/Intercultural Programs. Present name adopted 1987. Former titles in other languages: AFS Programmes interculturels -- AFS Interkulturelle Begegnungen. Registered in the State of New York (USA).

Aims

Provide intercultural learning opportunities to help people develop the knowledge, skills and understanding needed to create a more just and peaceful world; seek to affirm faith in the dignity and worth of every human being and of all nations and cultures; encourage respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms without distinction as to race, sex, language, religion or social status.
