1994-11-23

History

23 Nov 1994, within the Fourth Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development of E-XE2442 - European Commission (EC), to cover the specific programme for non-nuclear energy (NNE), 1994-1998, together with nuclear fission safety and nuclear fusion covered by separate specific programmes. Comprised 2 components, U-XK0120 - Joint Opportunities for Unconventional or Long Term Energy Supply (JOULE) and U-XK0156 - Energy Technology for Our Environment (THERMIE Programme). Successor: U-XK2167 - ENERGIE.

Aims

Through research and technological development, provide non-nuclear energy security - durable and reliable energy services at affordable cost and conditions, recognizing concern for: protection of the environment; reduction in the impact of production and use of energy, in particular carbon dioxide emission. Contribute to achieving other European Union objectives, such as: strengthening the technological basis of the energy industry, with benefits for the economy, employment and export potential; improving social and economic cohesion; contributing to cooperation with third countries - in particular Central and Eastern Europe and developing countries.
