As privileged points of contact, EICs: advise SMEs on Community matters; guide them to other services; help them initiate and manage economic development projects; assist them with documentation and technical support. As spokesmen for SMEs, EICs provide feedback to the European Commission on the concerns and interests of SMEs. They offer advice and consultancy services to SMEs and encourage partnerships with enterprises in other countries to promote a Europeanization of SMEs' services. EICs also: respond to about 350,000 queries annually; handle cases (about 400,000 files annually); assist in providing feedback to the Commission on practical problems in operating the European Single Market; organize training courses conferences and seminars. Specialized groups improve promotion of European Community/European Union programmes and facilitate explanation to SMEs of the internal market, research and technological development, external relations, environment, euro, standardization and Community/Union programmes. Groups of EICs meet regularly to promote exchange of information in their sectors of interest (transnational subnetworks).
