The UIA is a leading provider of information about international non-profit organizations. The aim of the Open Yearbook is to promote the activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).


8 Mar 1988, Amsterdam (Netherlands), by merger of International Archives for the Women's Movement (IAV), created 3 Dec 1935, 'Information and Documentation Centre for the Women's Movement (IDC)', formed in 1969 (as the documentation centre of the Netherlands Women Council) and 'LOVER', a magazine on feminism, culture and science, set up 1973. Original title: International Information Centre and Archives for the Women's Movement -- Internationaal Informatiecentrum en Archief voor de Vrouwenbeweging (IIAV). Present name adopted, 11 Aug 2009, in honor of Aletta Jacobs. Ceased to exist when merged with E-Quality to become Atria - Institute for Gender Equality and Women's History.

Maintains contacts with analogous institutions and acts, within several European networks, as a focal point in the Netherlands for the international exchange of information; promotes the exchange of knowledge and experience in the areas of collection and retrieval techniques as well as organization, and stimulates international cooperation in the profession.
