History

30 Aug 2002, Recife (Brazil), during 1st International Conference on Alcohol and Harm Reduction. As of 2008, ceased to exist. Activities taken over by F-XF4727 - Harm Reduction International (HRI).

Aims

Promote alcohol policies aimed at the reduction of alcohol related harm; encourage alcohol education which is honest, based on facts and aimed at the strengthening personal responsibility; urge the alcohol industry to refrain from promoting alcohol to the youth, refrain from linking alcohol consumption with a successful image and include warnings on their products about the risks of drinking and driving and alcohol consumption during pregnancy; promote exchange of information and experience; stimulate research and evaluation of alcohol harm reduction interventions, assessment studies of alcohol related harm and facilitate dissemination of results; give special attention to development of alcohol harm reduction policies and interventions in countries in transition and developing countries.
