History
Established 1992, by the Palma Document, within the framework of F-XF2147 - European Union (EU). As of 2017, assumed ceased to exist.
Aims
As a system of surveillance at external European Union frontiers such as ports and airports: promote cooperation and exchange of information between law enforcement and customs and procedures to combat illegal immigration networks; study abolition of checks in third countries - non-EU nationals, bilateral and multilateral re-entry re-admission agreements on third-country nationals; tighten measures against illegal immigration; prevent drug trafficking and other illicit trafficking procedures; develop measures for judicial cooperation, such as visa policy; assist in determining rights of asylum and of refugee status; promote police, customs and anti-terrorism cooperation in border areas.
