History
1973, Strasbourg (France), within the framework of D-XD0435 - Council of Europe (CE), as 'Committee of Demographic Experts' and, subsequently, as 'Steering Committee on Population'. Changed name to European Population Committee -- Comité européen sur la population (CDPO), Nov 1985, and to Committee ad hoc on Population (CAHP), Jan 2001. Set up by, and directly responsible to, E-XE8838 - Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe. Disbanded.
Aims
Monitor demographic trends in Europe, particularly in the social field and advise the Committee of Ministers on policy measures; carry out demographic analyses with a view to promoting better understanding of population issues at all levels of population decision-making and in various Council of Europe fields of activity.
