The UIA is a leading provider of information about international non-profit organizations. The aim of the Open Yearbook is to promote the activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).

History

1994, as Asia Pacific Higher Education Network (APHEN), initiated by United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). Current name adopted, 2000. Also referred to as UNESCO APHERN. As of 2010, suspended.

Aims

Facilitate and extend links between higher education and research institutions in the region; undertake research.

Activities

Organizes cooperative activities which focus on regional issues; motivates participants to assist each other; develops links for researcher mobility and collaboration in research; as resources permit, provides and maintains SQL (searchable) database of member institutions and researchers. Recent major activities: design of UNESCO Higher Education Legislation and Systems Database, plus Asia-Pacific entries; Rapporteur General at the Expert Meeting on the UNESCO Research Management Forum, a WCHE follow-up activity in conjunction with the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA). Organizes: Gala Conference; workshops, seminars and conferences; publishing activity in journals of other associations.
