8 Dec 1856, Lyon (France), by Mgr de Marion Brésillac. First approval by the Holy See: 1 Nov 1890; definitively approved 23 Aug 1900. Known also as: African Missions -- Missions Africaines; SMA Fathers; Société des Missions Africaines de Lyon.

Maintain missions especially among Africans and people of African origin.
